Tracy Floreani, Director of OKCU's Center for Interpersonal Studies through Film and Literature, presents Yusef Komunyakaa's collection of poems, Neon Vernacular. This collection of poems represents a sampling of the author’s work over many years, from his family memories, to his depictions of experiences in Vietnam as a soldier, to the abstract images that represent his long processing of that experience as a Veteran long after the war. Like Tim O’Brien’s stories, Komunyakaa’s poetry converts ugly memory into beautiful language and space for contemplation. NOTE: Yusef Komunyakaa will visit Oklahoma City University in person Wednesday, April 4! This presentation is a part of the Oklahoma Humanities Let's Talk About It Oklahoma "War, Not War, and Peace: A Pulitzer Prize Centennial Series." All are welcome to attend.
